IQNA – Iman (faith), which is the most comprehensive religious teaching in Islam, is from the root “Amn” meaning security and peace of mind and being away from any fear and sadness.

Remembrance of God

This shows the relation between believing in God and reaching peace of mind.

Peace of mind is what humanity has been looking for in the past and present. Especially today, when human beings are facing the crisis of identity and lack of calm, they resort to any means to find peace of mind.

The spread of newly-emerged and fake types of Irfan (mysticism) and the rising trend of use of narcotics signify this bewilderment, want and need (for peace).

Peace of mind is also a main sign of a healthy person and it is with peace of mind that one can strive to move on the path of growth and perfection.

The Holy Quran, as the Book of Guidance for humanity, offers a special prescription for achieving peace of mind.

In fact, peace of mind has a special importance in the Quran. So much so, that the word Iman (faith), which is the most comprehensive religious concept in Islam, is rooted in the word Amn, which means peace, calm, and being away from any fear and grief.

This clearly shows the relation between obeying God and reaching security and peace of mind.

The Holy Quran says: “Those who have accepted the faith and have kept it pure from injustice, have achieved security and guidance.” (Verse 82 of Surah Al-Ana’am)

God gives security and peace of mind to believers and this helps them strengthen their faith:

“It was He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers so that they might add belief upon belief.” (Verse 4 of Surah Al-Fat’h)
